Horizon Europe is the EU’s flagship research and innovation funding programme, with more than €95 billion in funding. New Zealand is a member Horizon Europe’s Pillar 2, allowing researchers and organisations in New Zealand to take part in - or lead -Horizon Europe projects and to receive funding on the same basis as their European partners.
Horizon Europe Pillar 2 supports research and innovation aimed at tackling major global challenges, including climate change, energy and health, and contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It has a budget of €53.5 billion (around NZD$90 billion) for the 2021–2027 period. Funding is organised across six thematic Clusters, each with a work programme setting out priority topics, expected impacts, budgets and participation conditions.
